GIFS Selective Endorsements ProgramGIFS’s revolutionary advertising program brings a new level of value to both advertisers and customers. The principle is simple: we hold the companies who advertise with us to a more thorough screening process. We make sure that advertised claims are true, and the product or service delivers what is promised. How Does the GIFS Selective Endorsements Program Benefit Advertisers? When you advertise on the internet, you deal with a lot of skepticism. And for good reason – a good percentage of online ads are misleading. Consumers have learned that if you “click here” you won’t really get a free i-pod, and that “optimizing” your internet connection really just means deluging yourself with popups. This skepticism also applies to text-based ads like Google’s AdWords. Consumers know that any “product review” is really going to be a subtle or blatant advertisement (or just a link to more ads), and that many “guarantees” are anything but. This skepticism hurts advertisers by dramatically lowering click-thru and purchase rates. Companies with products and services of legitimate value are assumed to be scams until proven otherwise. By restricting ads to those with accurate claims, we are able to increase consumer confidence and justified willingness to buy. Thus, if you have a product or service of value, and ads with accurate claims, the GIFS advertising program benefits you. We do not restrict ads based on our opinions of the product or service, just on the accuracy of the claims. For example, while most of the GIFS staff doesn’t eat fast food, we wouldn’t reject a fast food ad. However, we would reject a fast food ad if it claimed that fried chicken was a health food. How does the GIFS Selective Endorsements program benefit consumers?People like buying quality products and services. And people hate being lied to and ripped off. The GIFS Advertising Program allows for more of the former, and less of the latter. What are the drawbacks? While most internet advertising can be done with little human effort, our advertising program requires more time and effort on our part. Because of this, we don’t have the instantaneous turn around of programs such as Google’s AdWords. However, your ad won’t be grouped with spam and scams, which, we feel, more than makes up for it. GuidelinesAll advertised claims must be true, as they would be understood by a normal person under normal circumstances. For example, if an ad says “click here and get a free vacation”, then literally every person who clicks on the ad must be given a free vacation. If on the other hand an ad says “click here for a chance to win a free vacation”, that just means there is some probability greater than zero that a customer who clicks on the ad will win a free vacation. All ads must be relevant to the product or service they are advertising. For example, an ad for a magazine must mention the magazine by name, or at least indicate that it is an ad for a magazine. An ad for a magazine that says “try to hit the monkey” and makes no mention of the magazine will not be accepted. Ads may not contain nudity or explicit depiction of sexual situations . Ads for adult material are acceptable, as long as the ad contains no nudity or depiction of sexual situations. Please note that GIFS may choose to accept or reject any ads based on these and/or other considerations. Please also note that GIFS often deals with highly controversial independent film, which some groups may find offensive. We consider it a privilege to represent alternative viewpoints and groundbreaking art, and those who choose to advertise with us should be aware of this policy.
